Road Trip 2012 Highlights

I recently returned from a 2 week road trip. It was my fiance, Jennifer's first REAL road trip, so I was super excited. We had SO many things planned. So many reviews set up, but, as with most road trips, changes occurred which actually turned out to be a good thing!

The first week turned out as planned.....Alexandria-VA, Atlanta-GA, Destin-FL and Orlando-FL. We walked past historic houses, stayed at plush hotels, soaked up the sun, went swimming in the ocean, reviewed some fantastic restaurants, had fun at Islands of Adventure etc., etc., but the 2nd week, which brought a burst of (much needed) rain and a surprise visit from a "monthly friend" caused our plans to travel further south to Fort Lauderdale and Key West to change. We decided to save those destinations for (possibly) our honeymoon and head back north. We arranged stays in Florence-South Carolina, Annapolis-Maryland, Atlantic City-New Jersey and Lancaster-PA.

The weather was gorgeous! Sunny and warm (low 80's). We were hosted at the beautiful Westin Annapolis and enjoyed the quaint town. We were also hosted at the GORGEOUS Borgata Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City which truly made us feel like we were in Las Vegas! Wow. That place is simply amazing (I even won money!! - lol - always a good thing). We had Philly cheesesteaks and made a stop at Eastern State Penitentiary. We also decided to visit Amish country in Pennsylvania. We had so much fun driving through towns such as Bird-in-Hand, Intercourse and Blue Ball. No. Really....lol.

We blasted music. Ate at Waffle House. Played the "Cracker Barrel Game". Survived a 3 hour delay getting over the George Washington Bridge. We were teased by stormy looking clouds. We walked the Atlantic City boardwalk. Were the ultimate tourists at Hard Rock Cafes. Got special treatment at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville in Orlando. We went on rides at Islands of Adventure in the pouring rain. Sipped Butter Beer at Harry Potter Land (YUM!!!! Think creme soda with a creamy topping). We visited the tackiest place in America - South of the Border and had so much fun we almost peed ourselves! We adopted a doll that truly could be our child at JR's in North Carolina. We were given bottles of wine, chocolate covered strawberries, fruit, crackers, cheese and welcome notes in all the hotel we were hosted at. We enjoyed perfect weather in Destin as we relaxed on the beach, toes in the sand and cooled off in the turquoise/emerald water. We enjoyed yummy BBQ and sung along to Johnny Cash and Hank Williams. We witnessed a brush fire, thunderstorms, brilliant sunshine and a rainbow. We bought oranges, peaches, peanuts, watermelon and veggies which all rotted out by the time we got home...lol.

Jen and I spent every second together for over 14 days and got along beautifully. We laughed and had SO much fun, words can't even do it justice.

We were sad when the trip was over but know we will be on another adventure soon.

With a trip to Ptown scheduled for this weekend and a trip to Wildwoods, NJ July 6-9 and upcoming trips to the Jersey Shore, Brooklyn-NY, Newport-RI, Providence-RI, Boston-MA, Niagara Falls-NY, Lake Placid-NY and Saratoga Springs-NY planned for the summer....I think we'll both get our travel fix! ;)

What an amazing way to celebrate my 36th birthday....with my amazing, loving, beautiful, fiance and best friend.

Here are some photos highlighting our trip!

Tomboy Style

So I haven't sat and wrote a new blog in awhile. Maybe because I actually write for a living now....so I feel guilty if I write for pleasure as I should always being writing one review or another...nonetheless....

I recently saw a photo of Rachael Maddow and I have decided she is the FIRST LESBIAN, the first TOMBOY LESBIAN I would ever want to be like (style wise). I usually look at men's fashion (gay men - lol) because it is (slightly) feminine, but Rachael has got this "soft tomboy" look down perfectly. There is nothing ROUGH or BUTCH about her (in my opinion). She is just a TOMBOY.

I just love her style....especially the sneakers! ;)

The sneakers and books are just....so damn cool! LOL!

Love the glasses and shirt!

Funky blue glasses with soft pink T-shirt. Rachael at home with her "femme" partner of over 10+ years.

Awesome style!!

See, when I think of BUTCH I think of Gina Gershon's character in Bound.

And I'm sorry, but "EWW" is the first thing that comes to mind. Just not my "thang" ya know? I am sure there are plenty of women that drool over that character. Just not me.

I am by far a tomboy femme and I appreciate the femme aspect in women for sure. I don't find women that dress like my brother attractive (my brother is super macho...hmm...sorta dresses like Gina Gershon's character....lol).

I love when butch women have soft hearts and are extremely sweet, because it doesn't matter how short your damn hair is or the style clothes you wear, you still have a feminine way about you. I respect these type butch women. Although I have never been attracted to one in a physical aspect, I do respect them when they are not afraid to show their soft side.

I have just always been attracted to the feminine side of things. Whether it be a straight guy who is soft and sweet. A butch woman with a kind heart and warm smile or a femme woman who may know more about cars than I do. If the femme out weighs the masculine, that is all that matters.

I don't know what it is about me that doesn't find masculine qualities attractive, but I just don't and by masculine qualities I mean..... truck driving, cigar smoking, barb-wired tattoo wearing, un-emotional types.

I never understood my straight (or lesbian) friends who fell for the guys (butch women) who sit in the corner, pouting, hat backwards, jeans hanging off their ass -- always looking moody -- pissed off about something. I guess I am missing something.

If I was a straight woman I would take the man comfortable in a pink shirt, flashy blue sneakers, into gardening, writing poetry and unashamed to cry any day! ;-D

And as a lesbian woman --- I feel the same. As a tomboy lesbian woman that is.

Maybe I am using labels? I don't think so. I just think it is preference.

I have just always preferred to be with a woman that looks at women like Rachel Maddow and "swoons" --- not someone that looks at Kate Winslet or Katy Perry and "swoons", if that makes sense??? If that is the case, you do not belong with me. We can go swoon over femmes together.

Sometimes I want to re-join therapy just to delve deeper into this topic because it fascinates me so much and I would love an unbiased opinion.

It is critical that I have that "yin to my yang" balance in a relationship, which I am happy to report, I do! :) My fiance definitely is the yin to my yang...lol and, quite honestly, all my ex's have been.

Here is a test.

This link shows the top 15 "hottest butches" - http://www.afterellen.com/people/2007/7/topbutches (sorry, but Rachel Maddow should've been on this list for sure)

and

If you are a lesbian woman reading this right now, what do you find most attractive? Honestly?

I find this fascinating.

Simply fascinating.

But not as fascinating as Rachael Maddow's sneakers! ;)
